Ntate Stunna Biography: Lesotho-born artist Thaabe Letsie, known as Ntate Stunna, has been in Sesotho hip-hop scene since his debut in 2014. Born on January 17, 1996, in Maseru, Lesotho, Ntate Stunna has become renowned for his unique fusion of traditional Sesotho sounds with contemporary hip-hop, a style he refers to as “Genetic.” This innovative approach blends elements of trap music with Famo—a traditional Basotho genre characterized by accordion melodies, oil-can drums, and ululations—delivered through compelling lyrics in his native Sesotho language.
Musical Journey and Achievements
Ntate Stunna’s inaugural track, “From Khaya to Jozi,” released in 2014, drew inspiration from artists like 50 Cent and Nigeria’s Ice Prince. However, it was his 2020 debut album, Sesotho Fashioneng, that propelled him into the limelight, featuring hit singles such as “Lotto,” “Nka E Koala,” and “Ntoa.” His dynamic performances have seen him share stages with prominent artists, including DJ Tira, NaakMusiq, Major League DJz, and the late Riky Rick.
In 2023, Ntate Stunna expanded his discography with singles like “Chelete,” “Romeo,” and “THANDAZA,” each showcasing his versatility and commitment to blending traditional and modern musical elements. His collaboration on the track “Mushonga,” alongside Dalom Kids, Lwah Ndlunkulu, and Master KG, further exemplifies his ability to seamlessly integrate diverse musical styles.
Recent Endeavors
In September 2024, Ntate Stunna partnered with Castle Milk Stout for the AfriKaraoke campaign, an initiative aimed at celebrating African music, heritage, and culture. This collaboration underscores his dedication to promoting Sesotho culture and language through his artistry.
Despite facing challenges, including rumors in mid-2024 regarding his involvement in a car accident—a claim his management swiftly refuted—Ntate Stunna has remained focused on his musical career.
