Mpumi Mtsweni, born Nompumelelo Portia Tshabalala, is a South African gospel singer-songwriter from Middelburg, raised in Emalahleni (Witbank). She started singing as a worship leader in her local church from as young as four, and later studied Electrical Engineering at Tshwane University of Technology.

Though engineering was her initial path, music called her—she entered the competition Extravaganza at 18, which redirected her into a solo gospel career. After joining the gospel ensemble Spirit of Praise, she gained national recognition, especially with the song “Thath’Indawo Yakho”. Married to Mfundo Tshabalala and a mother, Mpumi’s journey reflects resilience and faith—overcoming early setbacks like poorly attended live shows, she now inspires many with her powerful voice and devotion to worship.
